Tribute to Bonny by wind-princess Tribute to Bonny by wind-princess
The old, beautiful and strange timber Bonny died on the 8th of May at the age of nearly 14. This is one of the last photos I took of her.
She was a bit weird, got bullied by her old pack and came to Klein-Auheim four years ago. There she lived in a friendly collective with different male wolves, at last with Roy and the two young europeans Hagen and Siegfried. She always displayed behavioural problems and whenever I came to her, she was shy and interested at once, seemed to distrust me but came closer and closer to the fence. I always liked her and see a special beauty in her even though she was so old. It will be a bit strange to visit Klein-Auheim without seeing a white shadow running around observing me and the young europeans. She died on an fatal arthritis. Hope there is an heaven for you, Bonny.

It's been a tough year for Wolf Park as well. They've lost at least 6 this year. My two favorite boys were among them, father and son, and I took it quite hard (to say the least). Going to be with the wolves just will not be the same ever again for me without my friends there. I know I will come to love a new generation, but I will ALWAYS love my boys! You know what I mean, right?

I know, I also was quite sad when I've heard from Chetans and Tristans death, the same with Ruedi and Erin. Sadly I've never met these wolves in reality as you did (and I'm quite envious on you ;)) but I've followed their lives via the great photos Monty took of them and the stories he'd told. I fear to get the message one day, that Wotan is dead.

Ah, I know how you feel. I've always said that one doesn't have to meet these guys in person to love them as much as I do (who has met them in person). I've had an honor and privilege that most don't get to enjoy and believe me, I appreciate that!

I saw the great Wotan last Saturday and he was looking fit and fine! He was being...well, Wotan! He was up and giving the folks a show by coming up to the fence to say Hello as if to say: "Look at me; aren't I gorgeous?" I swear he knows he is! :) Of course, it's the beginning of summer here so his coat isn't big and fluffy as most are used to seeing a wolf. But he's still a gorgeous boy. I hate being fenced away from them, but I managed a few shots that I can barely tolerate with fencing. I will post one of Wotan soon, so you can see how gorgeous he does look right now! I was able to speak to Monty, which was good. It was a packed house up there, which was also good; good for the Park.

I'm loving the work that you've been doing. The wolves you've been photographing are simply gorgeous! Do you get to go in with them or are you shooting through fence?

As I'm not really religious I don't believe in heaven ... but that does not mean that I don't wish others a beautiful heaven when they've passed. And if there is a heaven for anyone than also for animals - I'm sure =)

I always feel the urge to bid farewell to those I've introduced to you here on dA. Doing nothing even though I know that the animal is dead seems to be weird to me ...

Poor Bonny :( Died an old lady, she did. And she looks so sad in the picture, but maybe it's just my imagination because I know she died and that she had problems in her old pack. I believe now she's fine, whenever she is :)

It really amazes me, that she was a timber wolf. From the first look I thought she was one of the arctic wolves, and only after I read you comment I paid close attention to her fur and spotted the few darker spots. Maybe this was why she was bullied? Being different usually among wild animals means being something less. Poor Bonny.

As always, thank you for such a beautiful picture and information (though not for making me cry :( yeah, I'm not kidding, there were tears in my eyes when I watched the picture :( I'm such a softie and proud of it!)

Oh, I didn't want to make anyone cry even though I'm happy to reach peolpe emotionally - that's all I want to do. So thank you for your honesty and giving me that little smile

She has looked quite often a bit sad, but you're right.
It's not that unusual to get such a white coat for black timbers. Most of them will get sooner or later a white fur, as much as this one here: [link] Some of them are nearly white with two years, others not until they are ten years old. And - of course - there are few timbers who never get really white, just their snout as we know it from dogs. But maybe you're right with your guess and she has lived together with younger wolves or europeans ... sadly I don't know anything about her old pack.

It's sad that she died and that she god bullied by her own pack :(
This photo is really beautiful, though and it's interesting to read about how she was
when you visited.

Happily the humans changed her life with taking her to Klein-Auheim were the different male wolves never bullied her again =)
Thank you!
